Founder of Athenian in 2010, Neil has an MA (majoring in pure maths) from Aberdeen University. He began his career in IT as a software developer with Olivetti’s Business Systems Division in Edinburgh in 1976 and rose to Regional Software Manager in Leeds and then national Product Manager at their headquarters in London. In 1984, he set up the software house that became ResSoft and was responsible for the design and implementation of systems such as FirmControl (Linklaters’ PMS), FirmWare (Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s PMS) and Panaseea (Slaughter and May’s DMS). In 2004 he won the Concordance Merit award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Legal IT’ and his company won the award for ‘Most Customer Focussed Supplier’. In February 2005, following the acquisition of ResSoft, he became Tikit’s Professional Services Director. Leaving Tikit in 2008, he was retained for four years by top 100 law firm Thomas Eggar as Head of IT and, after a brief stint as Interim Head of InterAction Professional Services at Lexis Nexis, was retained by Integreon (the global managed service provider) to guide their Unified Business Management project at CMS Cameron McKenna. In January 2013 he then spent time with Lexis as Interim Director of Products leaving in September 2015 to concentrate his time on Athenian.
